McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, following a successful launch on June 25. A memo indicates that most McDonald’s locations across the United States have agreed to continue the promotion, which will be available in approximately 93% of restaurants. The length of the extension may vary by location, with some stores planning to offer the deal until August.
This move comes at a time when consumers are feeling the pinch from rising food prices, especially in the fast casual dining sector. The $5 bundle has proven to be effective for McDonald’s, as foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported a significant increase in customers visiting restaurants shortly after the promotion started.
The popularity of McDonald’s meal deal has also triggered a competitive response among other fast casual dining chains. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has added a permanent value menu priced at $1.99. Taco Bell recently announced a special $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its ongoing $5 Taco Discovery Box.
Burger King has extended its own $5 “Your Way Meal” beyond the McDonald’s deal, while also adding new items to its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has entered the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
