Fast Food Battle: McDonald’s Extends $5 Deal Amid Rising Competition

McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks. According to a memo from the fast food chain, most U.S. locations have agreed to continue the promotion, which initially started on June 25 for four weeks.

The $5 bundle will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the offer may differ by location. Some outlets have chosen to keep the deal running until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in fast casual dining, McDonald’s affordable meal option is proving beneficial for the company. A recent study by Placer.ai noted a significant increase in foot traffic at McDonald’s restaurants following the launch of the bundle, indicating that the deal is appealing to customers.

This promotion has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with their own offers. Arby’s recently introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In response to the competitive landscape, Burger King declared that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would outlast McDonald’s offering and introduced new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also participated in the pricing war with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
