The Park Board Meeting held on September 10, 2024, featured several significant updates for the Fargo Park District.
Commissioners unanimously approved a bid award to American Security & Gate Company for the Rheault Farm Park fencing replacement project. The approved bid, totaling $61,450, was the lowest received and fell within the $116,500 budget. The project will replace existing wooden fences with brown vinyl coated chain-link fencing, focusing on the north and east fence lines. Work is anticipated to begin in mid-October and conclude by the end of the month, although dates may be subject to change.
In another decision, the Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Fargo concerning the construction of the Red River Phase II Trail and Drain 27 Trail Crossing projects. This agreement allows for the establishment of segments within the City’s pedestrian transportation system, with the Fargo Park District responsible for approximately $143,122 for the Red River Trail project and $151,558 for the Drain 27 Trail Crossing. Funding for the Park District’s share is already allocated in the 2025 budget, while federal grants will cover the remaining project costs.
The Commissioners also agreed to apply for two grants: the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District Recreation Grant and the Outdoor Heritage Fund Grant. These grants aim to fund new recreational facilities and enhancements to existing ones. If successful, the Garrison Diversion grant will help upgrade the dugouts at Fields #3 and #4 and add a picnic shelter at the Anderson Softball Complex. The Outdoor Heritage Fund grant application will focus on improvements to the Southwest Regional Pond Recreation Area, including the addition of trails and native plantings.
Additionally, the Board approved an ordinance that prohibits camping on public property as part of the Fargo Municipal Code. This regulation will be enforced by the Fargo Police Department across both Fargo Park District and city-owned properties, effective September 11, 2024.
The meeting concluded with a public budget hearing, which saw no attendance from the public.
