In case you missed the Park Board Meeting on September 10, 2024, here are some key takeaways.
A bid has been awarded to American Security & Gate Company for the replacement of fencing at Rheault Farm Park. Commissioners unanimously approved the $61,450 bid, which was the lowest of two proposals reviewed and within the budgeted amount of $116,500. The project will replace the existing wooden fences on the north and east sides with brown vinyl-coated chain-link fencing and is expected to begin in mid-October, lasting through the end of the month.
Additionally, the Commissioners approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Fargo to facilitate the construction of segments of the Red River Phase II Trail and the Drain 27 Trail Crossing, expected to be completed in 2025. The park district’s estimated share for these projects is approximately $143,122 for the Red River Trail Phase II and $151,558 for the Drain 27 Trail project, which was included in the 2025 concrete improvement budget. The City has secured federal grants to cover the remainder of the costs.
Furthermore, permission was granted to staff to apply for two grants: the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District Recreation Grant and the Outdoor Heritage Fund Grant. If awarded, funds from the former would be used for upgrades to dugouts and the addition of a picnic shelter at the Anderson Softball Complex. The latter grant would fund enhancements at the Southwest Regional Pond Recreation Area, which includes various improvements such as trails and native plantings.
Commissioners also adopted a resolution related to camping on public property in cooperation with the City of Fargo, which prohibits camping on public land throughout the city, allowing for enforcement by the Fargo Police Department. This ordinance will take effect on September 11, 2024.
Following the regular board meeting, a public budget hearing was held. President Aaron Hill reported no public attendance during the hearing, which lasted only a minute.
