Harris Yulin, the acclaimed actor known for his memorable roles in films such as Scarface, Clear and Present Danger, and Training Day, has passed away at the age of 87. His family and manager, Sue Leibman, confirmed he died from cardiac arrest on Tuesday in New York City.

Though Yulin never achieved household name status, his extensive career spanned more than five decades, with a steady stream of work in both film and television. He candidly shared his perspective in a 2010 interview, stating, “I’m not that high-profile. I just do the next thing that comes along.”

On Broadway, he showcased his talent in productions such as Watch on the Rhine and The Diary of Anne Frank, while also taking on the roles of director for several off-Broadway shows. Yulin’s performances often left a lasting impression, whether portraying the corrupt Miami detective in Scarface or the cunning national security adviser in Clear and Present Danger. He also brought humor to his roles, notably playing a judge in Ghostbusters II and a quirky scientist in Multiplicity.

More recently, Yulin starred in popular Netflix series, including Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Ozark, further solidifying his status as a versatile actor. A memorable role of his was as Quentin Travers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, showing his range across genres.

Beyond the screen, Yulin’s journey began with a life-changing experience during his bar mitzvah, leading him to pursue a career in acting. An orphaned child adopted by a supportive family, his dedication to the craft was evident from early on, demonstrating a remarkable resilience and passion for performance.
