Actor Darius McCrary, widely recognized for his role as Eddie Winslow in the beloved series “Family Matters,” appeared in San Diego Superior Court where a judge ruled for his extradition to Michigan to address felony charges. McCrary was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents on October 5 under a felony fugitive arrest warrant. He has been held without bail in a San Diego jail following his arrest.

The warrant was issued after McCrary failed to attend a court hearing related to child support payments. According to his spokesperson, he owes over $75,000 in child support to his daughter in Michigan, with that figure likely having increased since it was assessed in August 2024. The prosecution revealed that McCrary has been arrested twice before—once in 2015 and again in 2023—on similar charges, and he had previously been extradited to Michigan from Los Angeles after his 2023 arrest.

During the hearing, it was noted that McCrary initially represented himself but was later assigned a public defender. The defense attempted to explain McCrary’s absence, stating that he was in Tijuana working on a home-building project when he was arrested upon returning to the U.S. However, the prosecution countered by stating that McCrary’s agent reported he was in Mexico to purchase real estate.

The judge denied bail, labeling McCrary a flight risk. As the hearing concluded, McCrary chose to waive his right to contest the extradition, paving the way for him to face his child support obligations in Michigan.

“Family Matters” enjoyed a successful run on ABC and CBS from 1989 to 1998, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of television. Despite the challenges he faces, McCrary’s journey highlights the importance of accountability and the need for responsible parenting.
