In the finale of Fallout’s second season, viewers are finally reunited with the Brotherhood after a significant absence in the series. The post-credits scene highlights Quintus, who has firmly embraced a path of violence. Though he didn’t pursue an alternative for long, this choice reflects the ongoing conflicts within the Brotherhood of Steel, a recurring theme in the Fallout universe. Quintus unveils plans for a superweapon, hinting at the legendary Liberty Prime, a character well-known among Fallout gamers for its unique charm, including phrases like “Death is a preferable alternative to communism.”

Liberty Prime is portrayed as a colossal combat robot, originally built by General Atomics International and RobCo as a response to the threats posed by the People’s Republic of China during the war. Known for its massive 100-foot height and intended capabilities, Liberty Prime was designed to hurl nuclear bombs at enemies and utilize energy beams. However, its ambition was hindered by the inability to create a reliable power source. Consequently, during the cataclysm that devastated the Fallout world, the superweapon remained dormant in the Pentagon.

In the games, the Brotherhood has monopolized Liberty Prime’s exploits, prominently featuring it in Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. In Fallout 3, after the Brotherhood’s arrival in Washington D.C., they found Liberty Prime in the Pentagon. Through their efforts tied to Project Purity, Dr. Madison Li successfully resolved its power issues. This enabled Liberty Prime to fight against the Enclave, ultimately leading to significant victories, even though it was destructed during its confrontation with the Enclave forces.

Ten years later, in Fallout 4, the Brotherhood under Elder Maxson sought to restore Liberty Prime once more to combat the Institute. Players were tasked with persuading Dr. Li, who had taken up a new role at the Institute, to assist in reactivation. With her help, Liberty Prime resumed action against the Institute, signaling its role as a vital asset in the ongoing struggles of the Brotherhood.

The recent season finale teases the potential return of Liberty Prime, now referred to as Liberty Prime Alpha. This new title raises questions about whether it denotes a new evolution of the iconic robot or merely a rebranding of the original. Showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet hinted at the immense power of Liberty Prime Alpha, indicating that Quintus may leverage this weapon to further his ambitions, suggesting a thoughtful exploration of power dynamics within the Brotherhood in future episodes.

With these intriguing developments, fans are left eagerly anticipating what direction the series will take regarding Liberty Prime and its implications for the Brotherhood’s future. Fallout Season 2 is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
