The Atlanta Falcons have officially appointed Craig Aukerman as their new Special Teams Coordinator, marking a significant addition to the coaching staff under newly appointed Head Coach Kevin Stefanski. This announcement was made via the Falcons’ social media platform, highlighting the team’s commitment to building a solid foundation for the upcoming season.
Aukerman, 49, boasts an extensive coaching background that began at Findlay University as a wide receivers coach. His career path has taken him through various college football programs before making the leap to the NFL with the Denver Broncos, where he initially served as a defensive assistant. His journey continued with coaching roles at the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, and Los Angeles Chargers.
In 2017, Aukerman returned to Tennessee, where he initially served as the assistant special teams coordinator. His efforts quickly earned him a promotion to the special teams coordinator position a year later. However, his tenure with the Titans came to an end in December 2023, when he was dismissed from his coaching role. Following that, he landed a position as the special teams coordinator for the Miami Dolphins for the 2025 season.
This hiring reflects the Falcons’ dedication to enhancing their special teams unit, a crucial aspect of the game that can often influence the outcome of matches. As Aukerman steps into his new role, he brings a wealth of experience that may prove valuable for the Falcons as they aim for success in the competitive landscape of the NFL. The Falcons are optimistic that this strategic decision will bolster their performance in the upcoming season.
