Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association are stepping up to support federal employees affected by the ongoing government shutdown by offering complimentary lunches. Franklin Graham announced this initiative on Facebook on October 31, revealing that meals will be provided starting Monday, November 3, and will continue daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. until the government reopens.
The initiative aims to assist federal workers who are currently not receiving their salaries due to the shutdown. Employees can enjoy a free lunch by presenting a valid government ID at any of the designated locations. Franklin Graham emphasized the importance of showing appreciation and support for these workers, noting, “We want them to know they are valued, that God loves them, and that we care.”
Three locations operated by Samaritan’s Purse will serve the lunches, including Boone, North Wilkesboro, and Greensboro, all situated in North Carolina. Additionally, lunch will be available at the Billy Graham Library parking lot in Charlotte and the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove in Asheville.
This outreach not only provides a much-needed meal for those affected but also serves as a reminder of community and compassion during challenging times. Franklin Graham also expressed hope that more churches with kitchens will join this effort to support federal employees, highlighting a collaborative spirit amidst political discord. As the government continues to navigate through this impasse, initiatives like these resonate with the faith-based community’s commitment to serve and uplift those in need.
