Playground Games has officially announced that the much-anticipated reboot of Fable will hit shelves in fall 2026. The game will be available on PC (including Steam), Xbox Series X and S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and for the first time, PlayStation 5. As a title produced under the Microsoft umbrella, Fable will also be accessible on the day of release through the Game Pass subscription service.

While an exact launch date remains under wraps, it is speculated that Fable will likely be released before mid-November. This strategic timing is presumably aimed at distancing itself from Grand Theft Auto 6, set to launch on November 19. Interestingly, Fable’s simultaneous release on PlayStation 5 marks a departure from Playground’s other major title for 2026, Forza Horizon 6, which will initially debut on Xbox before transitioning to PS5.

In an interview leading up to the showcase, Ralph Fulton, the studio head and director of Fable, emphasized the importance of accessibility in gaming. “Every project team is deciding these things, deciding what’s right for their particular title,” Fulton stated. He expressed a commitment to ensuring that as many players as possible can experience and enjoy their games, which he believes resonates with the majority of developers.

Previously, the Fable reboot was pushed from a 2025 release, having been initially revealed in 2020 and receiving its first substantial gameplay showcase at the 2023 Xbox Showcase. This timeline has heightened anticipation among fans eager to see how Playground Games reimagines the beloved franchise.

With its forthcoming release, Fable carries the hope of revitalizing a classic series for both new audiences and long-time fans, fostering excitement within the gaming community. As details continue to unfold, both players and developers alike are eager to embark on this new adventure together.
