F1: The Movie Debuts on Apple TV+ on December 12

Apple Original Films’ F1, currently the highest-grossing movie of the year from the Motion Picture Association, is set to debut globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, December 12. This critically acclaimed racing drama has generated an impressive $629 million, making it not only the highest-grossing original film for Apple, but also a standout in the sports film genre.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, F1 will arrive on streaming platforms after an extensive 168-day run in theaters, which was facilitated by a distribution partnership with Warner Bros. This film marks a personal milestone for Pitt as well, being his highest box office performer to date. It achieved an A CinemaScore rating and a remarkable 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating a strong positive reception from viewers.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer expressed enthusiasm about the film’s theatrical success and shared his excitement for its upcoming release on Apple TV+: “It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world embrace F1: The Movie in theaters. Now, we’re beyond excited to bring this exhilarating, cinematic ride to fans everywhere through Apple TV’s unparalleled global reach.” Bruckheimer also reflected on the rewarding partnership with Apple and Formula 1, highlighting the film’s ability to connect with viewers worldwide.

In the movie, Pitt portrays Sonny Hayes, once hailed as Formula 1’s most promising talent of the 1990s, whose racing career was almost derailed by a devastating accident. Thirty years later, Sonny is persuaded to return to the track by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem, who now manages a struggling team. As tensions rise and past ghosts resurface, Sonny finds that his fiercest rival may actually be his teammate. The film also features performances from Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Kim Bodnia, and was shot during live Grand Prix weekends, enhancing its authentic portrayal of the sport.

In addition to its critical acclaim, F1’s soundtrack has also made waves, selling over 600,000 albums globally and nearing a billion streams. The album features several hits, with seven tracks from the soundtrack appearing on Billboard’s Top Movie Songs chart, including Tate McRae’s popular single “Just Keep Watching,” which garnered two nominations at the VMAs.

As F1 prepares to transition from cinemas to home viewing, excitement continues to build for audiences who will have the opportunity to experience this exhilarating film from the comfort of their own homes.
