Extreme Heat Alert: Phoenix Soars as Records Shatter!

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for the Valley until 8 p.m. on Friday, with Phoenix expecting a high of around 113 degrees. This follows a record-setting high of 118 degrees on Thursday, marking not only a new daily high but also a record for the month of August. Other locations around the state, such as Show Low and Casa Grande, also reported record temperatures.

For Friday, the forecast indicates a continued high of 113 degrees, necessitating the ongoing heat warning. Overall, the weather is expected to remain dry but breezy to windy across the state, with a small chance of spot showers or storms mainly in far eastern Arizona.

As the weekend approaches, temperatures are projected to decrease slightly, with highs of 110 degrees on Saturday and 109 degrees on Sunday. The Valley may still experience a 10% chance of stray showers in the evenings, although the general outlook for the weekend suggests it will remain dry.

Looking ahead to next week, temperatures might exceed 110 degrees again initially before settling closer to the seasonal average of around 106 degrees mid to late week. There is potential for increased rainfall during this period, providing some relief from the persistent heat.

To stay safe during this extreme heat, the Scottsdale Fire Department has provided precautions to recognize heat emergencies, including symptoms of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Careful attention to hydration, proper clothing, and outdoor activity timing is strongly advised, especially during peak heat hours.

In light of the current conditions, it’s important to stay vigilant and prepared, ensuring the safety and well-being of yourself and loved ones during this challenging heat wave. With proper precautions and care, we can manage through these extreme temperatures safely.
