As dangerously low temperatures and strong winds swept through Northeast Ohio, schools in Summit, Stark, and nearby counties canceled classes on Friday. With temperatures plummeting into the teens and wind chills expected to reach around 15 degrees below zero, a cold weather advisory was issued and will remain in effect through early Saturday.

Despite the severe weather conditions, both the University of Akron and Kent State University are operating as usual today, remaining open to students and staff.

However, numerous schools in the Akron area are impacted by the closures. The following schools in Summit County have been called off for the day:

– Akron City School District
– Akron Preparatory School (evening activities canceled)
– Case Preparatory Academy
– Dreams Academy
– Emmanuel Christian Academy Elementary
– St. Anthony of Padua Elementary – Akron Campus
– St. Vincent de Paul Parish School
– Summit Academy Elementary – Akron
– Summit Academy Middle – Akron
– Summit Academy Secondary – Akron
– Summit Christian School
– SUPER Learning Center
– Towpath Trail High School

In Stark County, the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities also announced it would be closed.

Local news source, the Beacon Journal, has partnered with News 5 Cleveland to provide ongoing updates regarding school closures in the region. As the cold snap continues, community members are encouraged to take precautions to stay safe and warm.
