“Exploring Coastal Landscapes: A Solo Art Exhibit by Scout Dunbar”

DAMARISCOTTA — Artist Scout Dunbar’s “Views from the Shore” will be on display until July 31 in the River Room at River Arts, located at 36 Elm Street.

Dunbar, a third-generation female artist from Ithaca, New York, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Printmaking from Alfred University in Alfred, New York.

She has since focused her art practice in cities like New York City, Santa Fe, Tucson, and Bremen, Maine. Her work has been featured in numerous national and international solo and group exhibitions. Dunbar’s art is part of the permanent collection at the University of New Mexico, as well as various corporate and private collections.

Her artwork is inspired by landscapes from both her past and present, creating whimsical abstract two-dimensional pieces that evoke a sense of place.

“Views from the Shore” presents a fresh selection of abstract mixed-material drawings imbued with playful energy and an exploration of color, form, and line.

The exhibit draws from her experiences along the rugged coast of Muscongus Bay, where she has maintained a studio in a small cottage by the water’s edge since 2020. The new collection uniquely interprets the Maine coastal landscape just outside her cottage door.

Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
