In a recent interview on Fox News, Martha MacCallum spoke with exiled Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi regarding President Donald Trump’s approach to negotiations with the Iranian regime. MacCallum contrasted Trump’s current stance with former President Barack Obama’s policies in 2009, particularly concerning their responses to Iranian political movements.

Pahlavi praised Trump, describing him as “a man of his word” and emphasizing the need for support of the Iranian people rather than the regime. He stated that the Iranian population is unified in their rejection of the current government, expressing a genuine desire to foster positive relations with the United States. “They want to be partners with America,” Pahlavi articulated, highlighting the stark contrast between the Iranian populace and a regime that has historically chanted hostility towards the U.S.

As the dialogue progressed, MacCallum raised concerns that the current Iranian protest movement might lose momentum and questioned whether the administration might repeat the perceived mistakes of the Obama era. Pahlavi acknowledged this anxiety, pointing out that the fight for freedom in Iran heavily relies on external support. He expressed confidence that Trump does not wish to follow in Obama’s footsteps and urged immediate action to assist the Iranian people in their quest for liberation.

Pahlavi referenced Obama’s later admission of a mistake in not publicly supporting the Green Movement, which was brutally repressed early in his presidency. Trump, contrastingly, previously pledged support for the Iranian protesters and claimed he would respond decisively if the regime resorted to violence against them. However, despite ongoing reports of the regime’s violent crackdowns, including countless lives lost, action from the Trump administration has been limited.

The stakes are high, according to Pahlavi, who believes the opportunity for meaningful change in Iran hinges on timely and firm support from international leaders. He concluded with a note of hope, expressing optimism that Trump would recognize the pressing need to support the Iranian people as they strive for freedom and stability in the region.
