Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker recently shared a video on her campaign’s Instagram account that stirred some speculation. The video encourages voters to support Kamala Harris for president and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro for vice president. This led to questions about whether Parker was making an official announcement about Harris’ potential running mate.
However, a source close to Parker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, clarified that this was not an official announcement. “This is just the mayor showing her support for a longtime friend who we know is one of the people being considered,” the source said.
In the video, local union leaders and elected officials praise Shapiro. This could help him counter concerns about his support for school vouchers, which teachers’ unions oppose. Parker states, “I can’t think of a better partner than our governor, Josh Shapiro,” in the video.
Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia, who also appears in the video, expressed surprise at its release but agreed with the message promoting Shapiro for vice president. She mentioned participating in a separate pro-Harris ad and noted that the pro-Shapiro content was recorded afterward as a lighthearted addition.
The video adds another layer of anticipation as people await the official announcement of Kamala Harris’ running mate.
