The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are set to take place on September 11, hosted by Megan Thee Stallion and showcasing performances from major pop artists.
Eminem will make his return to the VMAs, opening the ceremony with a performance from his latest No. 1 album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” Additionally, Katy Perry will receive the Video Vanguard Award during the event, coinciding with the release of her new album, “143,” next week.
Last year’s ceremony featured Shakira, who was honored with a special award following her performance of hits like “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Whenever, Wherever.”
The VMAs celebrate outstanding music videos across various categories, including best collaboration, best pop, and best hip-hop. This year, viewers are eager to see who will secure top honors such as video of the year, artist of the year, and song of the year.
Leading the nominations are Taylor Swift and Post Malone, while Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, and Eminem follow closely with six nominations each. The nominations also include 29 first-time nominees.
Voting remains open for the best new artist category on the MTV website, and followers can participate via MTV’s Instagram story for the most iconic performance category. The final three contenders in the best new artist category are Chappell Roan, Gracie Abrams, and Tyla.
The awards show will commence at 8 p.m. ET/PT and run until 11 p.m. ET/PT. An early pre-show will start at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. In remembrance of the 23rd anniversary of September 11, MTV will support the nonprofits 9/11 Day and Tuesday’s Children.
Viewers can catch the VMAs live on MTV and Univision, with additional broadcasts on various Paramount-owned channels such as MTV2, VH1, BET, and Nickelodeon. For those who prefer streaming, the ceremony will be available on Paramount+ the following day, and live streaming options include Sling TV, DirecTV Stream, Philo, fuboTV, and Hulu + Live TV, many offering free trials.
