Jay Cutler, a former NFL quarterback, was arrested this week in Williamson County, Tennessee. The Franklin Police Department responded to a report of a collision between a white Dodge Ram and a blue GMC on Bridge Street. The GMC driver alleged that Cutler had rear-ended his vehicle and attempted to flee, even offering him $2,000 to avoid calling the police.
Upon arrival, officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on Cutler, who exhibited slurred speech and had bloodshot eyes. Cutler refused to participate in a field sobriety test, leading the police to take him to Williamson Medical Center for a blood sample.
A search of Cutler’s vehicle revealed two firearms—a rifle and a loaded Glock pistol—located in the center console. Cutler, 41, was arrested around 7 p.m. on Thursday and was released approximately three hours later. According to the arrest affidavit, he denied colliding with the GMC. While the GMC showed signs of damage, Cutler’s vehicle had a winch attached to it, concealing any potential damage.
He faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, possessing a firearm while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care, and implied consent. The GMC driver reported a back injury but declined medical assistance at the scene, opting to seek treatment on his own.
Cutler is known for his time with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins during his 12-year NFL career, and he played college football at Vanderbilt University, being selected by the Broncos in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
