Ewers vs. Manning: The Texas QB Dilemma Heats Up!

Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian is putting an end to any quarterback controversy ahead of the crucial Red River Rivalry game against the Oklahoma Sooners. Despite impressive showings from Arch Manning in recent games, Sarkisian has firmly stated that Quinn Ewers will remain the starting quarterback.

When questioned about the possibility of Manning getting situational snaps, Sarkisian quickly dismissed the idea. He expressed his belief in maintaining the rhythm that a starting quarterback requires, reflecting on his own experience as a starter. “I never wanted the backup coming in, even for a play. So, no, that’s not something I’ve ever entertained,” he told reporters.

With this declaration, any speculation regarding a quarterback competition was effectively squashed. Ewers, who was sidelined for two games due to an abdominal injury, returned to lead the Longhorns against Oklahoma.

Some fans, however, are eager to see more of Manning, especially after he completed 70% of his passes, tallying 12 touchdowns against just two interceptions during Ewers’ absence. Manning’s outstanding performances prompted discussions about whether he could secure the starting role for himself.

Sarkisian praised Manning’s progress but reiterated that Ewers’ experience and reliability are crucial for the team at this moment. “Arch wants to learn and grow, and he’s done just that. It’s a credit to his work ethic,” Sarkisian said. Thus far in the season, Ewers has completed 73% of his passes, contributing eight touchdowns and two interceptions.

Manning will need to be patient, with his opportunity likely coming in 2025 following Ewers’ graduation. For now, Sarkisian is placing his trust in Ewers, who is being projected as a potential top pick for the 2025 NFL Draft, alongside other notable players.

As usual, Ewers showcased his abilities in the game against No. 18 Oklahoma, but with the increasing buzz around Arch Manning, it is unlikely to be the last time Texas fans push for his presence on the field.
