AUSTIN – Quinn Ewers, the quarterback for the University of Texas, sustained an undisclosed injury late in the second quarter of the game against UTSA, prompting Arch Manning to step in as the replacement.
The injury occurred during a first-and-10 play from the Roadrunners’ 20-yard line. Ewers handed the ball off to Quintrevion Wisner, but then appeared to limp away from the action, ultimately falling down and calling for the trainer. Notably, he was not hit during this play, suggesting the injury might have happened earlier, possibly during a 49-yard reception by tight end Gunnar Helm, who fought off a defender en route to the red zone.
With Ewers sidelined, Manning took over as quarterback and immediately made an impact, throwing a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore, which pushed the Longhorns’ lead to 21-0. Manning also showcased his running ability by scoring a 67-yard touchdown on a designed keeper, extending the lead to 28-7 with just over 11 minutes left in the first half.
After exiting the game, Ewers was evaluated in a medical tent before going to the locker room with 10:01 remaining in the first half. He was seen walking under his own power, though with some caution, while accompanied by Longhorns staff. Later, he returned to the sideline in street clothes after completing 14 of 16 passes for 186 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. While on the sidelines, ESPN footage captured Ewers pointing to his left rib area, signaling to teammates and personnel to keep their distance from the injury.
