Rare’s long-anticipated original IP, Everwild, has reportedly been canceled amidst significant layoffs at Microsoft and Xbox, according to sources familiar with the situation. Team members learned of the cancellation during a period of substantial restructuring within Rare, which is best known for its hit game, Sea of Thieves.
The development of Everwild spanned over a decade, beginning with its announcement in November 2019 and followed by a trailer release in July 2020. Throughout this time, updates on the game’s progress became increasingly infrequent.
