Everton is reportedly keen on acquiring Ivan Toney as they approach the January transfer window. The 29-year-old forward, currently playing in Saudi Arabia, has expressed a strong desire to return to the Premier League, particularly aiming for a recall to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming World Cup. According to a recent report from the i Paper, the Toffees “would dearly love” to secure Toney’s services.

However, challenges loom large over this potential transfer. Toney’s substantial wage demands, reportedly around £500,000 a week, are expected to pose significant hurdles for Everton, limiting their financial flexibility. This situation complicates their ambitions to bring in a player who has demonstrated his prowess in front of goal, netting 43 goals in 64 matches since his move to the Arab Peninsula.

Given that Everton has struggled to produce consistent offensive output, the club will need to explore alternative forward options if a deal with Toney does not materialize. Current strikers Beto and Thierno Barry have had lackluster seasons, with Beto managing just a single goal so far. Though Barry is showing some promise, he too is under scrutiny, especially with rumors of Beto attracting interest from West Ham.

One name currently floating as a possible target is Artem Dovbyk from Roma. The Ukrainian has scored twice in 10 Serie A appearances this season, after a commendable tally of 12 goals in the previous campaign. As the winter window approaches, it’s crucial for Everton to address their scoring woes if they hope to achieve their season objectives. The upcoming transfer window may provide the opportunity needed to revitalize their attacking options, fostering a sense of hope for the club and its supporters.
