A brushfire late Tuesday afternoon northwest of Redmond has rapidly expanded to approximately 15 acres, prompting a significant response from firefighting crews and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. The incident began around 4:25 p.m. on Northwest Euston Lane, leading to the deployment of multiple air tankers, helicopters, and ground crews from various agencies.

The fire, designated as the Euston Fire, has led to the issuance of a Level 2 ‘Be Set’ evacuation notice for certain areas. This precautionary measure affects homes north of Northwest Coyner Avenue, west of Highway 97, south of Irwin Avenue, and east of Northwest Way. Residents are advised to be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice due to the significant danger posed by the fire, and the Sheriff’s Office emphasizes the importance of staying informed through local media and official updates.

As a result of the fire, over 10,000 members of the Central Electric Cooperative have experienced power outages due to a transmission line failure. The utility company is currently assessing the situation, but the estimated time for restoration remains unknown.

Fire crews, including 5 engines and a hotshot crew, have been actively working to suppress the flames, although the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Evacuation efforts include the establishment of a Temporary Evacuation Point at Highland Baptist Church for those needing assistance.

Smoke from the fire has created visible plumes across the region, and officials are urging residents to avoid the vicinity of Euston Lane and Coyner Avenue as firefighting efforts continue.

While the fire’s growth is concerning, there have been indications of progress as some evacuation zones were reduced. This dynamic situation highlights the importance of community preparedness and the responsiveness of local firefighting efforts in protecting residents and infrastructure.
