Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has expressed grave concerns about Europe’s security situation, stating that the continent finds itself in the most precarious condition since the conclusion of World War II. Speaking at a news conference attended by European leaders in Copenhagen, Frederiksen emphasized the need for urgent discussions on security and defense, particularly in relation to assisting Ukraine and enhancing deterrent capabilities, including the use of drones.

“The situation is serious,” Frederiksen remarked, indicating that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine poses significant risks to European nations. She singled out Russia as the primary threat, asserting, “There is only one country that is willing to threaten us, and it is Russia. Therefore, we need a very strong answer back.”

She also addressed the issue of recent drone incursions into European airspace, suggesting a supportive stance towards neutralizing such threats, while urging for careful execution. “I hope that everybody recognizes now that there is a hybrid war—one day it’s Poland, the other day it’s Denmark, and next week it will probably be somewhere else that we see sabotaged, or we see drones flying,” she said.

Furthermore, Frederiksen called for rearmament and increased military investments, advocating for the necessity to innovate, especially in drone technology. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk echoed these sentiments, warning that failure to prepare could result in dire consequences. Warsaw has previously advocated for the establishment of a no-fly zone in response to incursion events within its airspace.

As European nations face this unprecedented period of tension, the emphasis on cooperation and readiness highlights a collective effort to address the challenges posed by external threats while fostering resilience across the region. The dialogue among European leaders marks a significant step towards reinforcing the continent’s defenses in an ever-evolving geopolitical landscape.
