Ethel Kennedy has been hospitalized and is receiving treatment following a stroke she experienced while sleeping, as reported by her grandson Joe Kennedy III in a message on X on Tuesday.
“She is comfortable, receiving excellent care, and surrounded by family,” Kennedy shared. He noted that the stroke occurred last Thursday.
Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1968 during his presidential campaign, is the matriarch of a large family that includes 11 children, one of whom is Joseph Kennedy II.
In his message, Joe Kennedy III described his grandmother as “incredible.” He highlighted her strength and fulfilling life, asking for thoughts and prayers from the public and requesting respect for the family’s privacy during this time.
Hyannisport is recognized as the Summer White House for President John F. Kennedy, where the Kennedy family has historically gathered. The location has served as a cherished retreat for four generations, fostering family connections, shared values, and an appreciation for the ocean’s beauty and tranquility.

The family has a long-standing tradition of hosting an annual celebrity golf tournament in Hyannisport to support the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization, which continues Kennedy’s legacy.
