A Pap test is a straightforward procedure that can help prevent cervical cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society advises that individuals with a cervix who are sexually active should begin regular Pap testing by the age of 21. It is important for patients to schedule regular Pap tests and follow-up visits, as these screenings can detect changes in cervical cells before cancer develops, enabling timely treatment.

After Pap testing, roughly one in ten individuals may receive an abnormal result. Those with abnormal results will receive a follow-up call from a healthcare provider to discuss the next steps.

Anyone can book a Pap test at any time during the year by reaching out to their primary healthcare provider or by calling one of the province-wide numbers available on the health services website.
