The Ministry of Health in Fiji, with the support of EqualMed, has commenced the distribution of vital medical supplies to various communities, focusing initially on the Tailevu and Rewa divisions. Assistant Health Minister Penioni Ravunawa announced that these areas are prioritized for deployment, and villages such as Drekena in Rewa and Burebasaga are among the first recipients. The supplies, donated by EqualMed, aim to strengthen healthcare services in these regions.
Selvin Prasad, the Director of Health Operations for EqualMed, emphasized their commitment to reaching smaller and underserved communities. This initiative aligns with EqualMed’s broader mission to extend healthcare access beyond urban centers, ensuring medical supplies reach where they are needed most.
This effort builds on previous collaborations with EqualMed, notably a significant donation of $1.1 million worth of medical supplies to Fiji’s Ministry of Health earlier this year, part of a longstanding partnership that has contributed over $5 million to Fiji’s healthcare sector. These contributions are crucial in supporting healthcare professionals and enhancing the quality of care available to Fijians.
Furthermore, this initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Fijian government and international partners, including previous donations from Japan, to bolster health infrastructure and emergency services. The collective goal is to improve healthcare accessibility and ensure that all citizens, particularly those in rural areas, receive timely and effective medical care.
As Fiji continues to enhance its healthcare systems, initiatives like these signify positive progress towards more resilient and inclusive healthcare services. By addressing healthcare disparities and promoting accessibility, Fijian communities can look forward to improved health outcomes and a healthier future.
