Epiphone Unveils Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 Signature Bass Celebrating Dookie’s 30th Anniversary

Epiphone has unveiled the Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3, a signature bass crafted in collaboration with Mike Dirnt, the legendary bassist and co-founder of Green Day. This modern iteration of the classic Gibson Grabber G-3 pays tribute to the iconic instrument’s pivotal role in shaping the sound of punk rock, particularly highlighted in Green Day’s 1994 revolutionizing album, Dookie, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Mike Dirnt remains active with his beloved bass, showcasing it on Green Day’s The Saviors World Tour, where he performed in front of millions of fans worldwide. The new Grabber G-3, available in a striking Silverburst finish at authorized Epiphone dealers, Gibson Garage locations in London and Nashville, and online, also comes in a Natural finish that is exclusively available through the Gibson Garage and online.

Known for his impactful bass lines and energetic performances, Dirnt’s new signature bass honors his legacy with an amalgamation of classic craftsmanship and contemporary features. The Grabber G-3 is constructed with a double-cutaway maple body and a 34-inch scale three-piece maple neck, ensuring smooth playability and rich resonance. Depending on the finish, players can opt for an ebony or maple fretboard, each featuring black abalone dot inlays and 20 medium jumbo frets.

The headstock exhibits the iconic Grabber “V™” shape, equipped with open-gear bass tuners and historic clover buttons. A bone nut serves to enhance resonance, while the Leo Quan® Badass II™ bridge contributes to powerful attack, sustain, and adjustability. The strings pass through the body, anchored with ferrules on the back, enriching the bass’s tone and sustain.

At the core of the Grabber G-3 are three handcrafted Gibson G-3 pickups from Nashville, wired in a unique “buck-and-a-half” configuration. This setup offers versatile humbucking options via a three-way toggle switch—allowing combinations of neck and middle, all three pickups engaged, or middle and bridge—paired with master volume and tone controls to create an extensive range of noise-free tones.

The Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 also comes with a hardshell case, ready for any recording session or world tour. Whether one is a dedicated Green Day enthusiast or a bassist in search of a bold instrument, the Grabber G-3 promises to deliver the punch, style, and enduring legacy of punk rock.

Green Day has established itself as a formidable presence in rock, blending influences from East Bay punk and power pop to 60s garage rock and hard rock. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, the band has released fourteen studio albums, including the Double Diamond-certified Dookie and the Broadway musical adaptation of their punk opera, American Idiot. Their latest album, Saviors, was nominated for Best Rock Album at the upcoming 67th Annual GRAMMY® Awards and is set to release a deluxe edition in 2025 which includes bonus singles and videos.

Over the past year, Green Day has journeyed across the globe on the sold-out Saviors Tour, performing at major festivals including Coachella and Riot Fest. Notably, they recently released the music video for their new single “Suzie Chapstick,” continuing their legacy as one of rock’s most influential bands.
