“Epic Universe: A New Era for Orlando’s Tourism Boom!”

The baggage area at Orlando International Airport was bustling on Tuesday, and amidst the excitement were visitors eagerly awaiting their adventures at the newly opened Epic Universe theme park. Kristy Monroe and Julie Muniz, wearing matching “Jaws” t-shirts, excitedly shared their anticipation, with Monroe mentioning she had been up since 4 AM in preparation for the day.

Epic Universe, a $2 billion investment and the first major theme park built in Central Florida in 25 years, is projected to significantly boost the local tourism economy. The park is expected to create around 14,000 jobs and generate approximately $300 million in revenue during its inaugural year. Moreover, it is anticipated that the economic impact will extend beyond the park itself, benefiting support services like logistics and delivery.

Economist Sean Snaith from the University of Central Florida offers an optimistic viewpoint, suggesting that the expansion of attractions like Epic Universe will enhance the overall tourism landscape rather than create competition among existing theme parks. He likened it to when Disney opened its doors to Universal Studios, a move that ultimately benefited the entire Orlando area. “I think the pie is getting larger, as opposed to Universal’s slice getting larger,” Snaith noted, emphasizing the diverse experiences each park offers.

Local business leaders are looking forward to a record summer season, anticipating full hotels and increased tourist activity. Snaith also highlighted possible future developments in the tourism district, particularly around Kirkman Road, suggesting that the new park’s operations could catalyze growth and revitalization for that area in the coming years.

This introduction of Epic Universe marks a significant milestone for Central Florida, representing not only a thrilling new destination for guests but also a promising boost to the local economy. The future looks bright as Orlando continues to attract visitors from around the globe.
