In a recent legal action, the company targeted two individuals engaged in harmful activities. One was involved in selling cheats, while the other executed a series of DDoS attacks aimed at disrupting livestreams by Fortnite creators. Epic Games reported that the DDoS attacker not only interfered with live content but also engaged in “stream sniping,” which involved unfairly targeting other players during live broadcasts.
Epic Games announced on their Newsroom platform that they filed legal measures against both offenders, who have since received bans from the game and have publicly apologized via their YouTube channels. The social media accounts of these individuals were also cleared of any content related to their activities.
In his apology video, the DDoSer, known as Zebsi, expressed remorse for the negative impact of his actions on Epic, the gaming community, and affected streamers. Similarly, the cheat seller, identified as Mirrored, acknowledged their involvement in the cheating ecosystem, admitting to the sale and distribution of cheats and hardware while also confessing to having cheated in Fortnite tournaments. Both individuals now face permanent bans, with a warning of further legal repercussions if they engage in similar activities in the future.
This decisive action by Epic Games underscores the company’s commitment to fostering a fair gaming environment and serves as a warning to others contemplating similar actions. Notably, just last month, Epic successfully won a legal judgment against a different cheater, resulting in a $175,000 fine, which was donated to charity—a testament to their dedication to combating cheating and supporting the community.
