The incident occurred when school administration was informed of deteriorating secondary wiring, with plans for repairs set for the summer break. Unfortunately, the wiring failed earlier than anticipated, leading to a loss of power.
In response to the urgent situation, Entergy crews arrived the next day to assess the circumstances and quickly mobilized to expedite the replacement of the faulty equipment. This involved delivering a new transformer, setting a replacement pole, and installing updated wiring, all completed within 48 hours. Thanks to this swift action, the school’s electrical contractor was able to start the necessary wiring replacements immediately after power was restored.
Officials from both Entergy and the school expressed their appreciation for the effective collaboration that made the quick turnaround possible. Nyka Scott, vice president of customer service and economic development at Entergy New Orleans, emphasized the urgency of restoring operational capability in schools, noting the critical role they play in local communities.
Dr. Cynthia Thomas, president of St. Mary’s Dominican High School, thanked Entergy for their rapid response, highlighting that their efforts were key to ensuring the successful conclusion of the school year.
