Engine Stalls Spark Investigation into 150,000 Ram and Jeep Vehicles!

The U.S. Department of Transportation has initiated an investigation into approximately 150,000 Ram trucks and Jeep SUVs due to reports of unexpected engine stalls, which often result in vehicles failing to restart. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the models affected include the 2022 RAM 1500 pickup trucks and the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer SUVs, both of which are experiencing a sudden loss of power attributed to electrical issues that lead to engine shutdowns and intermittent restart capabilities.

The Office of Defects Investigation has documented 80 consumer complaints regarding engine stall incidents and power loss in these vehicles manufactured by Stellantis. These specific models are equipped with the 5.7L Hemi eTorque hybrid engines from the Fiat Chrysler Automotive Group LLC (FCA).

Reports indicate that many consumers experienced their engine shutting off while driving at slow speeds, causing the vehicle to shift into park and engage the emergency brake automatically, as noted by the NHTSA.

Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries connected to this issue, and the NHTSA’s preliminary investigation could potentially result in a recall. Stellantis has confirmed it is fully cooperating with the investigation.

This latest inquiry adds to the challenges facing Stellantis, as Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram brands reported a decline in sales during the second quarter. Earlier this month, an investigation was also launched into a recall for 94,000 Jeep Wranglers, and in June, the company was required to recall over 1 million vehicles in North America due to a software defect that could heighten the risk of crashes.
