Xabi Alonso’s tenure at Real Madrid has not started as optimistically as fans had hoped. The Spanish manager is still in the process of navigating the complexities of managing a star-studded roster at the historic Bernabeu stadium.

In recent seasons, Real Madrid has shifted its focus towards nurturing young talent instead of exclusively signing established stars. This strategy has generally proven successful, producing standout players like Vinicius Junior, Arda Güler, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Rodrygo, who have excelled in their roles. However, this approach has not been devoid of challenges, as highlighted by the case of Brazilian sensation Endrick.

Regarded as the next Pelé, Endrick has struggled to find his footing at Real Madrid. After limited playing time under Alonso, the young forward has recently joined Lyon on a six-month loan deal. Lyon’s coach, Paulo Fonseca, expressed optimism about Endrick’s potential shortly after his arrival, stating, “Endrick is different. We really needed him. He’s looking really good in training. We’re very happy he’s with us.”

Endrick demonstrated promise when he first joined Real Madrid, notably scoring in his debut games in both La Liga and the Champions League. However, his momentum was hindered when Kylian Mbappé took the reins of goal-scoring for the team. An injury during the Club World Cup further complicated matters, resulting in Endrick’s reduced opportunities in the current season, where he has only participated in three matches, starting just one in the Copa del Rey.

Although Real Madrid possesses a wealth of attacking options, it appears Alonso has been hesitant to allocate more minutes to Endrick. Nonetheless, his undeniable talent is evident, and the loan to Lyon might provide him with the necessary regular playing time to flourish.

As fans of Real Madrid remain hopeful for Endrick’s success both at Lyon and eventually back at the Bernabéu, this transitional phase might ultimately lead to a brighter future for the young Brazilian. His loan deal could be the catalyst he needs to reach his true potential, ensuring that Real Madrid have a valuable asset in him for the future.
