Lyon has successfully secured the loan signing of 19-year-old Brazilian striker Endrick from Real Madrid until the end of the season. The agreement does not include an option for Lyon to purchase the player outright. Under the terms of the deal, Lyon will bear part of Endrick’s salary, while Real Madrid will stand to receive additional compensation if he starts fewer than 25 matches. This compensation will also depend on the number of appearances Lyon makes in both the domestic cup and the Europa League.
Endrick has taken the No. 9 shirt at Lyon, marking a new chapter in his career. However, due to French regulations, he will be unable to play in their upcoming match against Monaco on January 3, as the transfer cannot be officially registered until January 1, which mandates a four-day waiting period before a player can make their debut.
Discussions regarding Endrick’s loan had been ongoing, as reported by The Athletic in October, with Lyon keen to take advantage of his limited playing time at Real Madrid. The young forward has struggled for consistent game time, making just three appearances this season under coach Xabi Alonso. Last season, he featured more prominently, appearing in 22 matches, but only starting three.
Endrick initially joined Madrid from Palmeiras at the age of 17 in December 2022, officially signing in July 2024. Throughout his time with the club, he has made a total of 40 appearances, netting seven goals and providing one assist.
This loan move presents a significant opportunity for Endrick to gain valuable experience and improve his chances of securing a spot on Brazil’s roster for the upcoming World Cup. Meanwhile, Lyon, currently positioned fifth in Ligue 1 after 16 matches, will look to utilize Endrick’s talent as they aim for a stronger second-half performance in the league and domestic cup competitions.
