The iconic “Sex and the City” franchise will officially conclude after over 25 years, as confirmed by star Sarah Jessica Parker and showrunner Michael Patrick King. The ending follows the third season of its spinoff series “And Just Like That…,” with King announcing the decision via the show’s Instagram account.

King expressed in his statement, “And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the ‘Sex And The City’ universe is coming to an end. While I was writing the last episode of ‘And Just Like That…’ season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.” This decision was reached in collaboration with Parker, HBO CEO Casey Bloys, and original programming head Sarah Aubrey.

In a heartfelt farewell, Parker reminisced about her role as Carrie Bradshaw, which she first portrayed in 1998. She shared her emotional connection to the character, stating, “Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all.” She acknowledged the support and feelings shared by fans throughout the series’ journey, which has seen over the years both acclaim and critique.

The franchise, which began with the original “Sex and the City” series, has been a cultural mainstay, influencing conversations around relationships, fashion, and female empowerment. Parker’s farewell post included a collection of images from the series, showcasing key moments and characters, including Miranda, Charlotte, and a nod to Samantha, along with newer faces from “And Just Like That…”

King mentioned that the announcement was strategically timed to not detract from the excitement surrounding the season finale, which will air over two Thursdays in the coming weeks.

This conclusion may evoke nostalgia for fans but also paves the way for new stories and characters to emerge in the evolving landscape of television, reminding viewers of the importance of change while cherishing beloved tales from the past.
