Empowering the Future: Robbinsdale Students Celebrate National Voter Registration Day

On National Voter Registration Day, Robbinsdale Area Schools hosted initiatives aimed at encouraging high school seniors to register to vote. Booths were set up in the cafeterias of Cooper and Armstrong High School, where volunteers attracted student attention with engaging displays filled with stickers and treats.

Nancy Intermill, a volunteer and the voter services chair for the League of Women Voters of Crystal-New Hope-East Plymouth-Robbinsdale, actively engaged with students. She informed them that those aged 16 and older can pre-register to vote, while those 18 and above have the opportunity to register on-site.

Intermill emphasized the importance of voter registration, stating, “If we have people that are registered to vote, they have it in their mindset. That’s democracy.”

Among the students, 18-year-old Ari White expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the electoral process, noting she has researched candidates and hopes to inspire her friends to register. “Voting is a privilege and an awesome right we have here in America,” she remarked.

Robbinsdale Superintendent Teri Staloch expressed her excitement about the students’ engagement with the voter registration booth. She highlighted the district’s goal to empower students by making them aware that their voices matter.

Additionally, the district participated in a live virtual event hosted by the Minnesota Secretary of State, allowing students from Robbinsdale Academy-Highview and Robbinsdale Virtual Academy to join.

In Minnesota, voters can also register on the same day. For details about voting, registration, and polling locations, residents can visit the Secretary of State’s website.
