The City of Tampa is set to host an interactive training session aimed at empowering neighborhood associations and crime watch groups, with a registration deadline of Thursday, September 26.

Scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 9 AM to 2 PM, the event invites local volunteers and aspiring community leaders to the City Center at Hanna Avenue, located at 2555 East Hanna Avenue. This session will mark the city’s inaugural Board Leadership and Governance training, offering practical advice on effectively operating a volunteer nonprofit organization. The initiative is part of Mayor Jane Castor’s Neighborhood University Saturday Sessions, where residents can gain insights into city services and departments on a monthly basis.

“Our city’s strength lies in our communities,” remarked Mayor Jane Castor. “By equipping local leaders with the skills they need, we’re ensuring that every neighborhood thrives and has a voice at the table. This training is a vital step toward a more unified and engaged Tampa.”

The program will be conducted by the City of Tampa’s Community Engagement and Partnership Department.

“We are dedicated to enhancing our communities by providing essential resources and training to their leaders,” stated Janelle H. McGregor, Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships. “Our aim is for participants to leave with the confidence and skills necessary to foster stronger, more inclusive organizations.”

The session will be facilitated by Dr. John Loblack, a certified specialist in team building, leadership development, and nonprofit management. Drawing from extensive experience, Dr. Loblack will deliver practical training to enhance attendees’ leadership and communication abilities.

The event is free and open to the public, and lunch will be provided for those who register.

To participate, please register by September 26, 2024, at tampa.gov/SaturdaySession.
