The celebration of the 66th birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito by the Japanese Embassy in Suva highlighted the strong and enduring relationship between Fiji and Japan. This event served as a reminder of the partnership that dates back to the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1970, showcasing the deepening ties between the two nations.
Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Hiroshi Tajima, spoke warmly about the friendship that has blossomed over the years, noting their collaboration in vital areas such as climate action, infrastructure development, disaster resilience, public health, and education. He expressed commitment to strengthening the bond, stating, “Japan and Fiji are cherished friends bound together by the Pacific Ocean and are important partners that share common values and principles, building upon the long-lasting trust and cooperation between us.”
Ambassador Tajima further reiterated Japan’s intention to work closely with Fiji and other Pacific partners to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region. Kiti Temo, Chief of Protocol from the Fijian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also conveyed congratulations on behalf of Fiji’s leaders and citizens, recognizing Japan’s ongoing socio-economic support through initiatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
This celebration not only marks a significant moment in the Fiji-Japan relationship but also paves the way for future partnerships that promise to bring about positive change in the Pacific region.
