Emon Shatters Records: Bangladesh’s Rising Star Hits T20 Century!

Parvez Hossain Emon achieved a remarkable feat in the ongoing series against the UAE, earning his place in Bangladeshi cricket history by becoming only the second player from the nation to score a T20 International century. Emon’s explosive performance, where he scored an impressive 100 runs off just 53 balls, included a record-breaking nine sixes. This achievement allowed him to surpass his idol, former captain Tamim Iqbal, who held the record since 2016.

Emon expressed his excitement and admiration for Tamim, stating, “I was well aware of Tamim bhai’s record… I’m happy because I used to watch him as a child and now my name is right next to his.” Despite Emon’s extraordinary innings, Bangladesh’s total fell short of 200 due to a batting collapse from the other players, with only Towhid Hridoy managing to contribute significantly.

Captain Litton Das acknowledged Emon’s stellar performance while highlighting the need for improvements within the team, particularly in finishing their innings more strongly: “Definitely, it was a good total… But we have to finish better.” He maintained confidence in the bowling unit, which successfully restricted the UAE to 164 runs, thanks to strong performances from Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

As the series stands at 1-0 in favor of Bangladesh, the team looks forward to clinching the series in the upcoming second match scheduled for May 19 in Sharjah. Emon’s achievement not only adds to his personal accolades but also inspires a new generation of cricketers in Bangladesh, showcasing the evolving talent within the national team. The continued development and contribution of young players such as Emon is a hopeful sign for Bangladesh cricket going forward.
