Former Emmerdale actor Simon Haines has shed light on his brief but impactful role as Owen Michael in the ITV soap. Although he made only three appearances in July, Haines revealed that his character was intended to have more scenes which were eventually cut before filming began.
During his time on the show, viewers witnessed Owen’s unfortunate date with Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), which took a dark turn when Owen spiked Robert’s drink. Paramedic John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) later found Owen unresponsive and chose not to save him, instead framing him for a murder.
While Haines anticipated a short stint, he expressed some disappointment that additional scenes were removed from the final script. “We talked about it in advance with casting… I think there was more Owen stuff in there, but by the time we came to do the first day shooting, it had been taken out,” he noted.
Despite the abbreviated storyline, Haines remains optimistic about his time on the show, acknowledging that it allowed him to align with other upcoming projects and contribute to a respected series. He hinted at the possibility of returning to Emmerdale, teasing, “You never know, there could be a twin brother or something…”
Fans have speculated on John Sugden’s fate, anticipating that he will face consequences for his actions as the plot thickens. This anticipation, coupled with Simon’s potential for a comeback, offers a hopeful outlook for viewers who enjoy the twists and turns of soap opera storytelling.
Ultimately, this narrative interweaves the excitement of unexpected plots with the actors’ perspectives, reminding audiences that in the world of soap operas, anything is possible.
