Emirates has made a significant order with Boeing, but this time, it’s not for passenger aircraft. The Dubai-based aviation group’s SkyCargo division announced on Tuesday that it has placed an order for five new 777 Freighters, amounting to $1 billion. This comes in addition to another five freighters that Emirates is already expecting.
“Demand for our world-class product and services is growing exponentially, further amplified by Dubai’s Economic Agenda, which aims to double foreign trade and reinforce the city’s position as a global trading hub,” said Emirates CEO Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. “This investment in additional Boeing 777 capacity enables us to cater to customer demand and marks a step forward in our long-term strategic growth plan.”
While Emirates is widely recognized for its extensive long-haul passenger services, the airline also has a significant logistics and cargo transport business. According to the company’s latest annual report, cargo revenues accounted for 11% of its $37.4 billion business, a decrease from the previous year due to increased global cargo capacity following the worldwide economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Emirates is set to receive the new freighters by the end of 2026, bringing its dedicated freight fleet to a total of 17 aircraft.
