Eminem has released a new music video for his song “Temporary,” featuring a blend of nostalgic home videos alongside recent footage that includes a significant moment in which he discovers he is going to be a grandfather.
The song, which features Skylar Grey, serves as a heartfelt homage to his daughter, Hailie Jade Mathers. The video primarily showcases old clips of Eminem and Hailie from the late 1990s and early 2000s, coinciding with the rapper’s rise to fame. It also includes more current moments, such as scenes from Hailie’s wedding and a touching exchange where she surprises her father with a Detroit Lions jersey that reads “Grandpa.”
“Temporary” is part of Eminem’s latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), released in July. Following the album’s release, he unveiled an expanded version that featured a new skit and three additional tracks, including a revamped version of “Fuel” and the collaboration “Kyrie and Luka” with 2 Chainz.
Earlier this year, Eminem began promoting The Death of Slim Shady with a campaign themed around the demise of his Slim Shady persona. This included a faux obituary published in the Detroit Free Press, lamenting the character’s “tortured existence.” In a dramatic moment, he used a chainsaw on the Slim Shady character at the conclusion of the music video for “Tobey,” which also featured Detroit artists Big Sean and BabyTron.
In addition to “Temporary,” Eminem has released music videos for other tracks from The Death of Slim Shady, including the lead single “Houdini” and “Somebody Save Me,” a collaboration with Jelly Roll. He performed both songs at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
