Eminem Shows Support for Kamala Harris in Detroit Rally
Detroit rapper Eminem made a notable appearance in his hometown on Tuesday to support Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, where he introduced former President Barack Obama at a rally.
Eminem addressed the crowd, emphasizing the significance of Detroit and Michigan in the upcoming election. He stated, “As most of you know, the city of Detroit and the whole state of Michigan mean a lot to me. And going into this election, the spotlight is on us more than ever.” He urged attendees to exercise their right to vote, highlighting that citizens should not fear expressing their opinions. He praised Harris for advocating a future that ensures the protection of fundamental freedoms.
Following his remarks, Eminem introduced Obama, who took the stage with the backdrop of Eminem’s iconic track “Lose Yourself.” Obama humorously referenced the song, mentioning the nervousness of performing in front of the crowd, before rapping several lines from it.
The rally, held just days before early voting begins in Michigan, aims to energize voters, particularly in Detroit, a critical area for Democratic turnout. The event included appearances from notable figures such as former NFL star Calvin Johnson and Democratic Senate candidate Elissa Slotkin, who is competing against Republican Mike Rogers for an open Senate seat.
During his address, Obama criticized Donald Trump, calling him unfit for office. He referenced a recent town hall where Trump chose to perform rather than engage with voters. “If your grandpa was acting like this, you’d be worried,” Obama remarked. “This is somebody who wants unchecked power. We do not need to see what an older, loonier Donald Trump looks like with no guardrails.”
In a counter to Trump’s recent visit to Detroit, where he referred to the city as “developing,” Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer responded strongly. She expressed disapproval of Trump’s remarks, stating, “I know you all saw what he said about this beautiful city. He called Detroit a failure and a mess, proving he ain’t firing on all cylinders. He doesn’t have a clue what the hell he was talking about. And you know what I think? He ought to keep Detroit out of his mouth.”
