Adam Sandler’s upcoming sequel, Happy Gilmore 2, is generating excitement not just for its storyline but also for a series of notable cameos, including one from the rap legend Eminem. During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Sandler shared insights on how he managed to convince Eminem to join the film, expressing his initial hesitance to reach out to the artist.
Sandler explained, “I love Eminem. I’m friends with Eminem, but I don’t want to bother the man.” Despite his reservations, he was persuaded by his team to give Eminem a call. After reaching out, Slim Shady surprised Sandler by responding positively, saying, “Yeah, send me the stuff.”
In the film, Eminem takes on the role of Donald’s son, a nod to the original 1996 comedy where Donald, portrayed by the late Joe Flaherty, was known for heckling Happy Gilmore. Fans are eager to see how this new character will honor his father’s legacy by continuing the tradition of ribbing Gilmore.
Sandler reminisced about his first encounter with Eminem at an SNL afterparty in 1999, where the rapper affectionately recognized him as his Waterboy character, Bobby Boucher. This moment marked the beginning of their friendly relationship, which has now led to multiple collaborations, including their previous work together in the 2009 film Funny People.
With Happy Gilmore 2 debuting on Netflix, fans can look forward to both nostalgia and new laughter, courtesy of this dynamic duo. The blend of comedy and music icons promises to bring fresh energy to the beloved franchise.
