Eminem Gets Nostalgic in Heartfelt New Music Video “Temporary”

Eminem has unveiled a new music video for his song “Temporary,” which features nostalgic home movie footage mixed with recent clips, including a moment where he finds out he is going to be a grandfather.

The track, featuring Skylar Grey, serves as a heartfelt tribute to his daughter, Hailie Jade Mathers. The video mainly showcases old clips of Eminem and Hailie from the late 1990s and early 2000s, coinciding with Eminem’s rise to fame. It includes significant new moments, such as footage from Hailie’s wedding and a touching scene in which she presents her father with a Detroit Lions jersey emblazoned with “Grandpa.”

“Temporary” is part of Eminem’s latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), released in July. In September, he issued an expanded edition of the album that added a new skit and three additional songs, including a revamped version of “Fuel” and “Kyrie and Luka,” featuring 2 Chainz.

Earlier this year, Eminem began promoting The Death of Slim Shady, centered around the concept of the demise of his Slim Shady persona. This included a satirical obituary published in the Detroit Free Press, reflecting on the character’s “tortured existence.” Additionally, he dramatically destroyed his alter ego with a chainsaw in the video for “Tobey,” which also featured fellow Detroit rappers Big Sean and BabyTron.

Eminem has also released music videos for the album’s lead single, “Houdini,” and “Somebody Save Me,” a collaboration with Jelly Roll. He performed both tracks during the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
