Emily Cooper’s European adventure in Season 4 of “Emily in Paris” was lively, taking her from the French Alps to the iconic piazzas of Rome. However, series creator Darren Star clarified in a recent interview that Emily will not be permanently relocating to Rome.
Star explained that although viewers will see Emily spend time in Rome, she is not abandoning her life in Paris. “We’ll spend some time in Rome. But she did not change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome,” he said. “Emily can spend time in both cities. She’s not leaving Paris.”
Star also hinted at the possibility of more Roman adventures for Emily if a fifth season is confirmed. “Emily [is now] there. There’s an office, and I think the story is taking us there for the moment,” he remarked, emphasizing the show’s dual-city appeal.
In this season, Emily’s romantic pursuits take a new turn with the introduction of Marcello Muratori, a new love interest meant to signify a fresh start after her tumultuous history with Gabriel. Star shared, “Marcello comes into Emily’s life in an unexpected way and opens the door to so many possibilities: new country, new culture, new adventure.” However, the determined Gabriel is set on pursuing her in Rome, adding tension to her new relationship.
Season 4 also brought surprises, including Camille’s unexpected pregnancy reveal, her subsequent decision to adopt, and Mindy’s adventures as a judge on “Chinese Popstar” in Shanghai. Notably, the season featured a cameo from France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron.
As for the future of “Emily in Paris,” Netflix has yet to announce the show’s renewal for a fifth season. Representatives from the streaming service indicated that no updates are available regarding its potential return. Nevertheless, information surfaced during the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, suggesting that filming for the fifth season was planned to start mid-2025. A walk-on role auctioned at the festival drew significant attention, selling for around $277,000, with the winning bidder getting an on-set experience in Paris, pending the show’s renewal.
