Emily Cooper’s latest season has taken viewers on an exciting journey through Europe, from the picturesque French Alps to the vibrant streets of Rome. According to Lily Collins, who plays Emily, “No one loves a holiday like Emily Cooper.”
However, fans wondering whether Emily is permanently moving to Rome can rest easy: she is not. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, series creator Darren Star clarified that Emily will not be leaving Paris behind. “We’ll spend some time in Rome,” he explained, “but she did not change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome. Emily can spend time in both cities; she’s not leaving Paris.”
Star also hinted that if the show gets a fifth season, there may be more adventures for Emily in Rome. “There’s an office there, and the story is currently taking us in that direction,” he noted. “So, while we will explore more of Italy, Paris will remain a significant part of Emily’s life.”
In recapping Season 4, Star introduced a new romantic interest for Emily, Marcello Muratori, as a refreshing shift following her complicated relationship with Gabriel. “I wanted to bring in a new love interest that felt like a fresh start for Emily,” he said. Yet, it seems that Gabriel is determined to win her back, even as he heads to Rome.
The season was filled with intriguing plot twists, including Camille’s unexpected pregnancy story and her decision to adopt, along with Mindy’s journey to Shanghai to judge “Chinese Popstar.” A notable cameo this season featured France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron.
As for the future of “Emily in Paris,” Netflix has yet to announce whether there will be a fifth season. When contacted, a representative from the streaming platform indicated there was no new information to share about a potential continuation of the series. However, during the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, a walk-on role for the fifth season was auctioned, suggesting that filming could begin in mid-2025.
Should a fifth season materialize, there is no information on its release date yet. Observing the release patterns of previous seasons might provide some clues: the first season debuted in October 2020, the second in December 2021, the third in December 2022, and the most recent season was split into two parts, arriving in August and September 2024.
