A United Airlines flight had to be diverted shortly after its departure from Washington Dulles International Airport due to an engine failure. On Friday, July 25, United Flight 108, en route to Munich, took off around 6 p.m. but quickly reported an emergency situation involving its left engine, prompting the pilot to issue a mayday call.
According to audio from air traffic control, the pilot informed them of the engine failure shortly after reaching an altitude of 10,000 feet. In response, air traffic control advised the pilot that there were no other aircraft in the area, allowing for a safe return to the airport. The flight landed safely back at Washington Dulles around 8:33 p.m., as confirmed by FlightAware.
A spokesperson for United Airlines clarified that a “mechanical issue” necessitated the flight’s diversion. Crystal Nosal, an airport spokesperson, mentioned, “The plane landed safely, was checked by Airports Authority Fire and Rescue personnel then towed to a gate,” highlighting that there was no disruption to other flights at the airport.
