Fans of Elvis Presley and his family are being offered an intimate glimpse into their lives through a posthumous memoir titled “From Here to the Great Unknown,” co-authored by Lisa Marie Presley and her daughter, Riley Keough.
Oprah Winfrey announced the memoir as her latest selection for the book club on “CBS Mornings” this Tuesday. The book delves into the complex life of Lisa Marie, exploring her experiences growing up at Graceland, the anguish of losing her father, and her journey through motherhood.
Keough reflected on the book during her appearance, stating, “Reading the book, it does feel like a tragedy. But I think that it’s really important for me to remember that there was so much joy and love and just wonderful times in our lives.”
An excerpt from “From Here to the Great Unknown,” which is currently available for purchase, recounts a memorable incident involving Elvis during one of his tours. It details a night when he became extremely angry and began throwing items off a hotel balcony. Keough recalled how everyone was instructed to hide, fearing his outburst. However, once he calmed down and learned she had come to see him, he greeted her with a hug after she brought him water.
In another reflection, Keough shared stories of enjoying amusement park visits with her father. She recounted a time when she invited friends to Libertyland but overheard Elvis arguing and realized the trip was in jeopardy. Later, it emerged that his frustration stemmed from needing a medication fix, but once he got what he required, they proceeded to the amusement park together, where she amusingly noticed his gun while they rode roller coasters.
Winfrey has designated “From Here to the Great Unknown” as her 108th book club pick on October 8.
