Elton John shared his emotional experience of attending the premiere of his new musical, “The Devil Wears Prada,” while grappling with vision challenges due to a recent eye infection. Speaking at the musical’s opening night at London’s Dominion Theatre, which coincided with a charity gala for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, John expressed his difficulties in watching the performance.
“I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because I’ve lost my eyesight, so it’s hard for me to see it,” he stated. However, he added, “I love to hear it, and it quite sounded good tonight,” highlighting his passion for music remains undiminished despite his condition.
At 77, John has been candid about his health struggles, revealing that a severe eye infection has resulted in limited vision in one eye. While he remains optimistic about his healing process, acknowledging it will take time for full recovery, John spoke about the inspiring hope he feels for the future. “I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything,” he admitted during an appearance on “Good Morning America,” but he continues to harbor hope for improvement.
Although John announced his retirement from touring last year, he remains active in his creative pursuits, having composed the score for “The Devil Wears Prada,” a musical adaptation of the beloved 2006 film. Additionally, he is set to release a documentary, “Elton John: Never Too Late,” on December 13, which promises to offer insights into his life and career.
Elton John’s triumphs continue as he celebrated achieving EGOT status earlier this year, winning an Emmy for his exceptional live performance at Dodger Stadium. His dedication to music and advocacy serves as an inspiration to many, reinforcing the idea that creativity and passion can thrive even in the face of adversity.
This story is a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of pursuing one’s passions, no matter the challenges one faces. Elton John’s journey illustrates that hope and creativity can remain steadfast sources of strength, encouraging others to embrace their struggles and continue moving forward.
